This architecture course explores the question "Why do buildings stand up?" through the history of great monuments and the architectural technology behind them, guided by the book of the same name. Designed for both homeschool and classroom use, students journey through different eras of architectural history, from ancient structures to more modern landmarks, uncovering the engineering and artistic vision that shaped them, while considering bigger questions like "What is beauty?" This is not a dry survey of dates and names. This curriculum brings architecture alive as both science and art, building real understanding through narration, sketching, and hands-on engagement. Detailed lesson plans, narration ideas, scheduling tips, curated links and resources, and a guide on how to approach teaching architecture are all included.

The multi-authored Charlotte Mason Centenary Monograph series is designed to highlight and explore the continuing educational and leadership relevance of Charlotte Mason (1842–1923) through the collective contributions of the Armitt Museum and Library, the University of Cumbria, the Charlotte Mason Institute, and other scholars and practitioners worldwide.
