This Physical Education curriculum brings the Charlotte Mason philosophy of whole-child wellbeing into the gym and onto the playground, building musical ability, balance, coordination, posture, sportsmanship, endurance, and community through games, dances, and free play. Designed for both homeschool and classroom use, all activities are geared toward small groups but can be easily adjusted to any size. The curriculum is organized by grade level. Grades 1 through 3 develop hand-eye coordination and rhythm through Playground Songs and Rhymes, Jump Rope, Free Play, and Folk Dancing. Grades 4 through 6 add Playground Games, Sports (this year: football, badminton, and softball), and Free Play circuits alongside Folk Dancing. Grades 7 through 12 continue with Playground Games, Sports, and Free Play circuits, and introduce Historic Dancing, where students learn dances popular during their current historical time period performed to period-appropriate music.
The multi-authored Charlotte Mason Centenary Monograph series is designed to highlight and explore the continuing educational and leadership relevance of Charlotte Mason (1842–1923) through the collective contributions of the Armitt Museum and Library, the University of Cumbria, the Charlotte Mason Institute, and other scholars and practitioners worldwide.
