Wanting to add handicrafts to your day of Charlotte Mason lessons? Our handicraft lessons feature a different handicraft each term and are suitable for students of all grades and ages. Lessons in lettering also offer older students a fun break in morning lessons or an enjoyable afternoon occupation. View options and samples below. Following Charlotte Mason's model of rotating handicrafts throughout the year, students explore a new traditional craft each term. One term is dedicated to clay modeling, focusing on a foundational hand-building technique each year with connections to observation and narration across the curriculum. The remaining terms focus on handicrafts which resonate with the historical time period studied in other subjects. For instance, new for the 2026/27 year, handicrafts include a term of stitching lessons on Sashiko (a Japanese embroidery tradition) and Redwork (popular in the U.S. and Europe) and a term of cloisonné, an enameling technique that uses metal strips to create delicate designs.
The multi-authored Charlotte Mason Centenary Monograph series is designed to highlight and explore the continuing educational and leadership relevance of Charlotte Mason (1842–1923) through the collective contributions of the Armitt Museum and Library, the University of Cumbria, the Charlotte Mason Institute, and other scholars and practitioners worldwide.
