Creativity & Contemplation

From Desiree Salcido, Support Specialist

Christmas is a wonderful time to pause and reflect. As Charlotte Mason homeschoolers, we have the unique privilege of weaving the season’s wonder into our days. From reading timeless stories like A Christmas Carol to singing hymns that stir the soul, such as O Come, All Ye Faithful (a term 1 hymn this year), the season invites us to cultivate joy and reverence. Nature walks through frosty landscapes, simple handicrafts like making paper bag stars or homemade gifts for loved ones, and reading seasonal poetry each offer opportunities for creativity and contemplation.

Whether you are taking a break from formal lessons right now or continuing with your regular schedule; let this serve as encouragement of how beautiful this season can be for each of us. And be sure to remember that the lessons taught through joyful traditions and shared stories are as impactful as any formal lesson. Whether your days feel full and festive or quiet and reflective, the atmosphere of your home—filled with love, peace, and the story of Christ—plants seeds of truth and goodness in your children’s hearts. During this season, let wonder and worship guide your days, knowing that the beauty you share with your children will linger long after the season ends.

If you haven’t checked out the CMI 2024 Advent guide yet, don’t fret, there is still time to enjoy this wonderful resource as we approach Christmas Day. You can download it here.
