Composition Through the Years

Following up on last week’s focus on writing instruction, we thought a graph showing the progression of oral (including silent) and written narrations through the grades would be helpful:

Note that some students might not be ready to begin any written narrations until around age 10 and that some students may be ready sooner.  Also, note that in the upper grades, oral and silent narrations are still present and important for students to practice.  For more information and conversation around this topic, listen in on Office Hours from last week.

6. CMI Conference: Our 2024 CMI Conference, “The Joy of Making: Artistry, Handicrafts, and Creativity in the Digital Age,” will be held at Asbury Seminary on July 25-27. Save the date!

7. Office Hours: Join us at 3:30 EDT on October 25 as Kathryn (Forney) Avery talks about composition study in a Mason model and how it prepared her for college and beyond. Submit your questions by 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24.
