From Shannon Whiteside:
When I read The Story of Charlotte Mason by Essex Cholmondeley, I was intrigued by Charlotte Mason’s schedule and the balance she found between work, reading, and time in nature. It is a balance that we should all strive for to keep us refreshed for all the tasks we have before us. While I am still trying to find that balance, one thing I have regularly implemented is afternoon tea. Like any good English woman, Charlotte Mason had tea at 4 o’clock. So I decided to begin with that. A steaming cup of Earl Grey Crème has become a staple of my afternoon. I decided to also include my younger daughter in part of this routine, and it is now an important part of our day. We don’t necessarily do anything together, but we both sit on the couch with our tea and maybe a treat and spend 20 minutes reading our own devotional book and missionary biography. I am currently reading Amy Carmichael’s biography A Chance to Die by Elisabeth Elliot. We sit in each other’s presence and keep each other accountable to protect this time. What routines or rituals do you implement as part of your day to give you respite and refreshment? Head on over to the Hive and let us know.

This week’s video is another excerpt from LeAnn Burkholder’s 2021 session. While she is speaking with dyslexia in mind, I have found pretty much everything she says to be true for one of my children who is not dyslexic. So, worth a listen if you are caring for any child that has reading challenges even if you have been told that they are not dyslexic! This episode will be archived in the Strategy and Psychology folder on the BOB webpage. https://charlottemasoninstitute.org/the-blue-orchard-bee/#videos
