Setting Tech-Wise Patterns
Remember the days when we had to find the answers to all our burning questions in an encyclopedia? Although it is fun to reminisce about the days before the internet, we cannot go back to those times nor would many of us want to. Technology has brought us many blessings but it has also brought us many challenges. In the Tech-Wise Family, Andy Crouch states,
The most powerful choices we will make in our lives are not about specific decisions but about patterns of life: the nudges and disciplines that will shape all our other choices. This is especially true with technology. Technology comes with a powerful set of nudges-the default settings of our ‘easy-everywhere’ culture. Because technology is devoted primarily to making our lives easier, it discourages us from disciplines, especially ones that involve disentangling ourselves from technology itself (p. 37).
I encourage you to read this book (found in the Sunday readings for high school). Crouch has a lot of great ideas that he has implemented with his family on his quest to let technology be a servant and not a master. What guidelines have you implemented in your life and in your home to keep technology in its proper place? Head over to the Hive and share your thoughts.
