Growing Alongside our Children
From the Alveary Team:
Do you plan for your own growth? Many of us come to a relational education looking for curriculum or training so we can confidently lead our students toward a rich life. Then, reading Charlotte Mason’s words that “education is a life” and experiencing living books and ideas alongside our students, we remember that we too – mothers, fathers, teachers, administrators – are persons made to learn and grow ourselves. But, in the busyness of planning our children’s education, it is easy to let our own occur haphazardly. Let’s be intentional to feed our own minds with living ideas! Here are a few opportunities and suggestions which will encourage your own growth and also help you prepare for the coming school year:
1. A New Book for Little Historians. History is a fascinating and challenging subject, and Tracy Mackenzie’s short book (assigned in HS History courses) gives a valuable framework for how to engage with history. Mark your calendars for August 7th for an Alveary book discussion during office hours!
2. Rembrandt is in the Wind: Learning to Love Art Through The Eyes of Faith. Pick up this book in the next few months and then join us for a book discussion during office hours on September 4th.
3. Get outside and gain some nature study skills with John Muir Laws’s Nature Journal Connection or Roeseann Hanson’s Nature Journaling for a Wild Life. Or, if you’re looking for a more intensive experience, start our new Advanced Nature Study (listed in HS Science). course! You can find it listed in the HS courses.
4. Choose a biography to enjoy from the selection listed in the program for Alveary History or Church History courses.
5. Explore any extra helpings from a course you enjoyed with your students from this past year!
Put August 7th and September 4th on your calendar, and let’s make our own educational journey a community experience!
Notes
1. Alveary Hive: Are you in the Hive? Members are sharing schedules, asking questions, and connecting. Hop on over and introduce yourself. While you're there, look for a few Circles to join!
2. Planning Your Year: We'd love to showcase how some of our members plan their year on social media and the Hive. If you're interested in documenting a bit of your process, please reach out to Sarah at sarah@cminst.org.

We have spoken with our liaison there to correct this. If you purchased a 5th-grade kit and only received 2 test tubes, she asks that you contact Customer Service via phone (406-256-0990), email (service@homesciencetools.com), or through the online chat and they will send your missing test tubes right away.
